The Alien Who Stole Christmas

Planetarium visitors will go on a tour of winter’s evening sky and then join jolly ol’ Santa and concerned alien, Mr. Freep, as they explore the solar system’s planets and meet the Christmas Eve needs of their fictitious inhabitants.  This show is divided into two parts: the winter eve star walk and the main story of  The Alien Who Stole Christmas, with a laser teaser from our holiday laser show.

Laser Holidays

It’s an exciting and different way to be festive during the Holiday season! This popular program features a mix of everyone’s favorite holiday music, from the classical to the modern, all set to fantastic laser, cove, and digital artwork. And since the show is rated a two out of five for intensity, it is appropriate for family members of all ages. Laser Holidays is a fun experience for everyone and gives new meaning to the term “holiday lights” – holiday LASER lights!

Star of Bethlehem

Ever wonder why we all agree on today’s date and time? Ever wonder if the “Star of Bethlehem” is out this holiday season and you’re the only one that doesn’t know where to look? Well, come get the answers to these questions along with others as we explore what astronomical phenomena were visible 2,000 years ago around the time of Christ’s birth that makes this star so legendary.

Star of Bethlehem is a blend of full dome digital presentation along with the audience participation of looking at the night sky. After the history portion of the show the Hylton Planetarium’s very own Tony Kilgore will walk you through the Prince William County night sky so that you can be sure to impress all your friends and family this holiday season with fun filled ways to remember what’s out there. Mr. Kilgore uses a blend of science and humor to help audiences of all ages connect those “dots in the sky” and form some pretty cool constellations!

Secret of the Cardboard Rocket

Adventure through the solar system in the Cardboard Rocket! Travel with two children and their navigator, the talking astronomy book. Visit the Sun, the planets, the Moon and more. The narration track was edited in 2007 for the reclassification of Pluto to dwarf planet. References to “smallest planet,” “ninth planet,” and “last planet” were removed and Pluto is simply termed a planet in view of it being a new category of planet.

Solar System Odyssey

Solar System Odyssey is a character-driven adventure set in the future, in a time when humans have depleted the resources of their home planet. A business tycoon recruits our hero, Jack Larson, on a mission to discover a new home for humans to colonize.

Join Jack and a stowaway, Ashley Trout, on a wild ride through our Solar System as he looks for answers to these questions: How are the worlds of our Solar System alike? How are they different? What must those worlds have in order for humans to live there?
